motion heads in action
after a couple of days on the coast, I made it back to a full crew for an afternoon of ogrering. our MoHeads came back from travels (France, New York, Cape May, and Peru) to join forces in the studio to work on coloring, animation, and backgrounds for the film.

indy hall
haven't wandered in there, and I hear there's a waiting list to get in:
Indy Hall
co-working spaces: an idea whose time is coming in an individually isolated, corporately overwhelmed society that in many ways desperately needs a larger sense of community.
and some others, cropping up around these parts:
• the Factory, Second Saturday at the Factory
• NextFab
• CultureWorks
....any others you know of?

nice rain
water from the sky all day. but in a gentle, warm way.
first ogre/mermaid work session with Eric in a long while, today - we got a background and some keys out of it. take a look here.
"Lost in Translation" - watching it, I don't see the point of this movie, but perhaps I should finish watching it before coming to conclusions, as it were.
ideal studio: members help each other making films, and take on paid projects after establishing their aesthetic and range, and only interesting ones. Best to enjoy what you do, and be invested, rather than chase money to do things. Do good work first. That will bring freedom.
ok.

summer heat, summer beat
working on "The Ogre and the Mermaid" in earnest since the beginning of summer vacation, and today was a day of capturing previously completed pencil tests.
my friend Soyeon Kim of Yellowshed just finished a major personal film: Soyeon's blog & link to "Ahco On the Road." Years of professional experience pay off impressively with the beautiful color palettes and designs in this piece, which is about a baby elephant that wanders away from its mother. It's good to see my former classmates continuing to make stuff - reminds me of all the time we spent working on films at school - a privileged period, to be surrounded by talent and intensity like that. And if we're lucky we'll still be doing this years from now.
it's currently very hot and humid in Philadelphia - swimming pool weather. A good time to hunker down indoors, as well, and draw like crazy.
