alfred pellan

one may or may not like everything he did, but one leaves the exhibition of Alfred Pellan's work with a smile on one's face, happy that someone appeared to enjoy his time on the planet so much, the companionship of his wife, the audacity and capacity to take in the fullness of the moment...

if you find yourself in Quebec City soon, go check him out at the Musée des Beaux Arts...and if not, then check him out online.

and that's all I have to say about that.

never here before...and I like it.

good to go somewhere for the first time, especially those places that are in-between, like frontier towns, or like this city, caught between the french and the english - where people seem to hesitate between "bonjour" and "hello," where assumptions may be second-guessed...a delicate equilibrium where many are not in the majority, maybe even the majority itself.

first impressions only happen once. this place, I experience with keen interest the strange co-existence of gallic and anglo elements, two realities mixed together yet distinct from one another...

old friends found at siggraph

this is my friend evan. we went to school together an increasingly long time ago and are still animating, and he's also writing a novel.

bumped into him at a food cart just after getting dropped off by sandro, below, from lunch. small world, that of computer graphics.

and this is my friend sandro. we also went to school together an increasingly long time ago and he is also still animating, just about to launch into his newest film.

they are both talented and amiable young fellows. feel free to check out their work and heap loads of praise upon them.

and finally...

...a bit of festival swag, procured by Harris and destined for my tea-professional animator.

people lined up and ran in the exhibitor area in the mornings just to get their hands on these bits of plastic, this one identified as number 1962 of 3000.
