this is my favorite animation instructional book, even more than Richard Williams' seminal "Animator's Survival Kit," because it is smaller, more concise, and lets you take off from where it ends without getting involved in semantics.

cirque du soleil

well it was nothing if not nerve-wracking, with performers hanging above you and doing incredible, impossible-seeming things, but Cirque du Soleil's "Chemins Invisibles" was not only a great event to experience, it was also free.

one may or may not like everything he did, but one leaves the exhibition of Alfred Pellan's work with a smile on one's face, happy that someone appeared to enjoy his time on the planet so much, the companionship of his wife, the audacity and capacity to take in the fullness of the moment...

never here before...and I like it.

good to go somewhere for the first time, especially those places that are in-between, like frontier towns, or like this city, caught between the french and the english - where people seem to hesitate between "bonjour" and "hello," where assumptions may be second-guessed...a delicate equilibrium where many are not in the majority, maybe even the majority itself.

first impressions only happen once. this place, I experience with keen interest the strange co-existence of gallic and anglo elements, two realities mixed together yet distinct from one another...
