This place embraces you as soon as you step off the plane. The world feels like it's on the television set, somewhere else. Birds chatter to wake you, and spam musubi is the devil's treat after tennis.

The sun, the ocean, the plants...all a salve for over-sensitized souls.

Summer break is here. The days are like wisps, floating by, filled with music and naps, but also larger clouds on the horizon.

But clouds can have silver linings, hopefully.

Cap's.

Sitting in on open mic with Rahul at Cap's in Gloucester City last week with Cap, Mike, and friends. Friendly musicians, solid drummer.

Secret American.

Derek Krzywicki's Secret American, with guests from the New Connection (Philadelphia), this evening at the Foundry. They put on a great debut performance, justifiably intimidating the second opening act, Fabergege. Wish I could have witnessed Cheers Elephant in the past, but this is the present.

He seems to have expanded into the direction of stage choreography, eschewing the guitar altogether tonight and debuting a bunch of new songs with lots of backup harmonies, rhythmic and harmonic interest (although I want to hear them again soon - maybe they'll be released shortly?). This song (Facebook link) in particular sounds like a single - catchy and clever, could have easily been mistaken for a Cheers song.

Every artist has their reasons for trying something new.
